The truth of the matter is that the whole Susan episode was actually just part of a deeply-deranged plot by Alfred. The young man had become obsessed by the exploits of Fred and it became increasingly personal until he felt he wanted to possess the knight and had hatched a dastardly plan to take possession of him. When Fred ate the berries they in fact put him into a deeply suggestible hypnotic trance. It was while in this trance that Alfred implanted all of the memories of being transformed into Susan, which was to be part of his overall plan. He then implanted a suggestion that he would find the first man that he saw when he woke up unbelievably attractive, even though he was disgusted by homosexuality At this point Alfred then got them both into bed and woke Fred from his trance So it was that a homophobic knight found himself in a state of confusion as he found he could not resist his desire to be with Alfred, even though he believed it to be totally wrong.
