All of the room's occupants were naked, as our heroes had expected. Fred
remembered that Arkon-Vaal had said that most of his captives were
peasants, and wonderd which of the people - there seemed to be at least
fifty - were nobility. But without clothes, it was surprisingly hard to
tell. Working people would be more likely to have calloused hands, it
occurred to him, before he realised that bathing in the special water (he
would rather not think of it as magical) would probably have removed such
blemishes. He imagined that he would be able to tell the nobility by
talking to them. That was assuming that they all spoke his language, for
he did not know how widely Arkon-Vaal might have spread his metaphorical
net.
Glenda wondered it there were any other Fae amongst the prisoners - it seemed unlikely that she would be the only one - but she too found thst the lack of clothes made it surprisingly hard to tell. She was a little better off than Fred, though, as only a few looked young enough and beautiful enough possibly to be Fae. She also wondered which man was the mage Carradene whom Rowena had mentioned. Perhaps that distinguished- looking, silvery-haired man over there, seeming to keep a little aloof from the others? The mage seemed the most likely person to have an understanding of what the dragons might be planning, so she made her way towards him. Astra too was scanning the crowd with interest. Most of them were taking little notice of the new arrivals. She supposed that the three of them were merely the latest of many, and hence were lacking in novelty value. She saw a young couple sharing a couch not far from her who were kissing and cuddling, apparently not at all bothered by their lack of privacy. But someone had taken an interest in the new arrivals. Astra was shocked to see a very familiar figure approaching her:
