And without another word, the Doctor went dashing off. After a second's hesitation, the red-headed Betty moved to follow him. "Wait!" yelled Stacy. "What are you doing? The Doctor said to stay here!"

"I'm a companion," she replied. "They never stay put when he tells them to, and I'm not about to break with tradition now. I'm going with him!" And she, too dashed off.

Stacy and the remaining Betty exchanged glances. "Well," said Betty, "I guess we stay here and guard the switch..."

Minutes passed.

  1. Another hypnotized employee burst into the room.
  2. Melissa returned. "Hey, guys, I found something I think you should see."
  3. "All the readings are going into the red," said Betty at last. "We can't wait for the Doctor any longer. We have to do something!"
  4. Finally, the power went off.
