Fred had the stake firmly shoved up against his forehead. He hefted
the hammer one last time and then swung it upward with all his might. But
before it struck home, his entire arm was suddenly stopped dead in its
tracks. Some irresistable force had frozen his arm in mid-swing.
Since Fred had had his eyes closed shut the entire time, he had no idea as to what had happened. It was therefore with some surprise that he heard a girlish voice say, "I wondered where I put down my stake and hammer." Opening his eyes he looked down on a young girl, her long blond hair swinging in a ponytail. "Hi," she smiled, "my name's Buffina, but my friends call me Buffy." Fred blinked and then replied, "Hi, my name's Frederigo, but my friends call me Fred." "Um, Fred?" Buffy said, still smiling. "Yes?" Fred answered, wondering when she was going to let go of his arm because now her grip was really beginning to hurt. "Can I have my stake and hammer back?" Fred returned his attention to the hammer in his one hand and then glanced up to the stake shoved up against his forehead with the other hand. "Uh...sure Buffy. They're all yours." "Thanks," she thanked him and took them back from him with no more effort than you would have taking candy from a baby. Fred gingerly began massaging his bruised arm. "You're kinda strong, Buffy," he commented. "Yeah, sorry about that," she said with some embarrassment. "Sometimes I forget my own strength. But it sure comes in handy in my line of work." "Oh? And what's that?" Fred asked. "I'm a Slayer."
