Josh in the distant future

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 79582

Josh is just far enough in the future for most of New York to still be standing. In fact, several chunks of the Flatiron building thump to the ground.
Josh wanders the streets of New York, the fortunate occurence of a near- full moon lighting the way. Dusty skeletons litter the streets. Yellow, mold-infested newspaper machines indicate that some sort of threat emerging from a meteor hitting Alabama had caused the end of the world. Josh wanted to know more but the rust and the muck and the mold of the newspaper machine made him not want to touch it.
Proud of this burst of logic, he decides to go looting. A nearby all-purpose corner drug-store is lit up with the moonlight reflecting off a nearby abandoned cars. Josh steps through the near-empty frame of the front window and starts fiddling with stuff. The front aisle and most of the register section are the only clear spots in the store, pretty much everything else had been smashed down, looted and smashed or filled with blown-in garbage or debris from the holes in the ceiling.

  1. He finds a shrink-wrapped video game magazine and reads about some beat-'em-ups that will now never be made.
  2. Josh finds some notebook paper and makes some paper airplanes. They go pretty far. WHEE!
  3. Josh sees some shiny coins and giggles. Shiny!
  4. Josh finds the front cash register half-buried. He swipes all the paper money. He's rich!
  5. The sunlight glints off a mountain bike behind the counter. Josh's only real skill is mountain biking. He makes good time through the city.
  6. Josh spots a water fountain. It shoots out glowing green ooze. Fascinating!
  7. Using a hand-cranked flashlight and luck, Josh makes it back to the pharmacy. It's mostly passable back here. Time to score some good dope!
  8. The ceiling creaks and groans. Josh grabs a clam-shelled pocket-knife and beats feet.
  9. The ceiling creaks and groans. Josh jabs it with a mop handle. "Shut up, up there! I'll call the cops!"
  10. Josh finds a rack of Twinkies with an expiration date of, if the signs were right, years ago. Does he dare eat one? YES.
