Damn! I knew wearing a dress, of all things, was a bad idea, Astra
thought.
Then she called: "Velus, my dress has got caught and I'm stuck! Get help!"
Velus gave a succession
of barks which, when decoded, said: "Now how on Earth am I going to
find any help around here? The only solution is for me to tear away the
bit of the dress that is stuck, using my teeth."
But, to Vellus's disappointment, Astra's body did not leave sufficient space for him to wriggle past and into a position where he could get at the part of the dress that was stuck. "Sorry, but you are going to have to find a way to get free yourself," he barked. Astra wasn't as familiar as Fred with the code of barks that Fred and Vellus had worked out, but the gist of that was pretty clear. She was a warrior-princess, fit and strong. Surely she could tear through a piece of dress material? She tensed her muscles for a final effort, then pulled with all her might.
