The idea both intrigued and troubled Fred. Part of him didn't mind joining 'the other side', if it was temporary, but he wasn't quite so sure about being both a woman and a fish. Velus seemed to have been left out of all this. Was he going to also be transformed into a mermaid, a 'dog-fish', or some other sea-life?

The other questions that crossed his mind included: how were they going to get to the Floating Islands? Was the mermaid kingdom a rule or an exception when it came to mermen, if they existed? If mermen did not exist or if they were simply excluded from the kingdom, then how did the kingdom grow? Did they have another way to reproduce or did they capture human men? It had to be the former or something else since there didn't seem to be any mention of half-mermaids yet.

No matter what questions were swirling in his head, he had to come to a decision about becoming a fishy female.

  1. Fred agrees to eventually be transformed into a mermaid.
  2. Fred decides to help this princess to the Floating Islands, but was not going to follow her into the Boundless Ocean.
  3. Fred dropped out of the quest once he heard he'd have to make such a drastic transformation.
