Fred was happy to find that most of the court viewed him very much as the
wounded hero. Naturally he had been evasive when asked how he had
received his injuries, but it was generally assumed that he was being
modest and must have been hurt in fighting the dragon. Admittedly just
how he had returned to the palace was something of a mystery.
Fred was thankful that Exotica said nothing, though a close observer
might have noticed that what looked rather like a cynical smile sometimes
would appear on her face when courtiers lauded Fred's heroism.
