Getting a Ride

"I said 'March Fourteenth Fools'. Are you deaf?"

"Ah, is that like April Fool?" Stacy said, as light dawned. Who would have expected a dwarf to pull a trick like that, though, even if it was the right day for it. She had expected dwarfs to be grim and humourless.

"I've never heard of April Fool. If you haven't heard of March Fourteenth Fool then you must come from a very long way away. Today's the day for trying to fool people into believing silly things."

"I see," Astra said. She had never heard of March Fourteenth Fool (or of April Fool for that matter). Either the portal had taken them to yet another world, or at the very least they must have been transported a very great distance.

"Well hop up on the cart," Dward said. "I can't wait here all day."

So Stacy, holding Lassie, seated herself to Dward's left and Astra sat on his right, and the driver told the horse - which was no bigger than a Shetland pony - to giddy-up.

"So what brings a couple of giantesses to these parts?" Dward asked. Stacy could not help smiling. At five foot six, she had never been called a giantess before.

1. Astra tells the truth, how they had arrived via a portal.
2. Afraid that the truth might spook the dwarf, Astra makes something up.
