"A rat morph rang us, and told us that your lives were in danger. We arranged a meeting at which he was going to tell us all the details: who was behind it and what their motive was. Unfortunately he never showed up at the rendezvouz, and we later learned that he had been murdered."

"That's terrible," Stacy said. "Is your offer of protection conditional on my taking up your job offer?"

Scott Summers looked offended. "Of course not," he said. "We're the good guys, remember. Though if you joined us, it would make protecting you much easier. You'd be living and working at our secret base, so that even tracking you down would be difficult for your enemy...

1. "And we'd be happy for your mother to live at the base as well."
2. "Unfortunately your mother, as a non-mutant, wouldn't be allowed to live at the base or even to know its location."
3. Stacy interrupted him. "How do I know that you haven't made up this supposed threat, and aren't trying to lure me into a trap?"
