"Because that, " said Fred with a learned air, "is a female dragon. And since it's a well-known fact that male dragons are inclined to abduct female virgins, female dragons must surely be interested in male virgins. It stands to reason."

"Uhh," said Velus, "well, in that case, I'm not. Definitely not. "

"I don't believe you," said Fred. "Now, get over there and act as a distraction while the princess and I sneak up on it."

1. Reluctantly, Velus agreed.
2. Velus stubbornly stood still.
3. Velus suddenly went pale, then turned and fled.
