The people outside are Mitchell's adoptive parents, Ignar and Hefkek Isnolobarrd, he was a seventeen year old refugee living in the streets of Calcutta and making a decent living organizing the financial books for seventeen businesses. It wasn't the best life but when you saved seventeen businesses tons of money, they warmed up to you. The owners of a fruit shop took him in, he prospered, moved out on his own and now the influence of the Staircase Room had driven him temporarily insane. Ignar and Hefkek banged on the door and cried out for Mitchell.
