Song of the Swan - A Josh Burbank Story

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 75586

Josh contorts his arms like the strange black men with shiny teeth on MTV do. “Yo, yo, yo,” he says to no one in particular. “Yo. Mic check. Yo. Mic check. Check one. Check two. Yo...yo yo. Check it. Mic Check. Yo. One, two. Listen up. Yo. Yo. Mic check. Yo. Yo, yo. Mike check. Yo. Check one. Yo. Check two. Mike check.”

This goes on for several hours...

“...Mic check. Okay. I need more snare in my headphones. Yo. More snare. Whoa, WHOA. Too much snare. There we go. Mic check. Okay. Here we go...”

And his rap goes something like this:

Yo, mic check one, two
This is what I say, this is what I do
Yo, mike check one two
This is what I say, this is what I do

Yo, mike check it’s true
I be like ‘mic check one, two’
When my mic needs checked I do
An’ I might mic check on YOU

Yo, mic check one, two
This is what I say, this is what I do
Yo, mike check one two
This is what I say, this is what I do

“Dat was like da coldest sh*t I done did hurd in a hot minute, son!” says a scary minority, startling Josh. He turns to behold the biggest, scariest black guy he’s ever laid eyes on. He eases a little, however, when he realizes most of this guy’s mass is in afro form.

“I’m sorry,” he stammers. “I don’t speak black.”

  1. “Quite, alright!” the man replies. “I am fluent in whitey!”
  2. “Don’t speak black!?” the man shoots back angrily. “Den why you layin down ill flows like a street poet!”
