Waves of healing energy washed over Fred's body. He finally found the
strength to stand, though he still felt as if he had gone through a meat
grinder. Out of the house emerged Mandy and Andy. So did their crazy scientist father and their mother, looking dazed as she held a plate of cookies. "Eureka!" their father exclaimed. "I now know the answer to everything! EVERYTHING!!" "Dad?!" Andrew exclaimed. "You were in the house the entire time?!" "What in the world?!" their father exclaimed, suddenly looking around. "Where are we?" He pulled a scanning device from the pocket of his coveralls and started taking readings of the area. "Fascinating! We are in Glass Castle, built 750 years ago by the D'Honaire dynasty before the Collapse. Structurally unsound by modern architectural principles, Glass Castle was nonetheless the tallest building of its time - even in an age when building style and magnitude were ridiculously increased by the discovery of an alien mineral substance that had landed on the planet during the Setoic Era. Glass Castle was nonetheless the tallest building of its time, dwarfing even such structures as the Hespan Meganon and Falstark's Arch." Fred blinked. He had no idea about any of this. The towering openness above him disappeared into darkness, and he could tell it went up quite a ways. How did he survive such a fall? He remembered he had landed on the balls of his feet, and bounced - and he had been grabbing onto something when he started falling again, even further this time. Andrew shone a flashlight and illuminated a place that was not any sort of cave, but rather an ancient palacial dance hall. Shrouded dinner tables were covered with centuries of dust, and chairs were stacked up in the corner. In the center of the room, a giant staircase led up to branched off to the left and right. Tall double doors at the other end of the hall were bolted shut. "What in the world?" Andrew's father shouted, tapping his scanner. "I'm detecting random amounts of ectoplasmic activity all around us!!" "Ectoplasmic?" Mandy gulped. "You mean g-g-ghosts?" "Either that, or something I cant quantify yet." the scientist said, wrinkling his eyebrows. He turned to Fred "Yo gramps, what do you propose we do now?"
