There were a number of things that made Fred and Astra stand out from the
crowd. Fred's attire and complexion marked him out as a foreigner, whilst
Astra's robe - as Kwan had told her - indicated that she was a lady of
high standing. Why did two such seemingly eminent travellers have to
share a single horse? Even odder was that the lady was carrying a dog in
her lap. Add to that the fact that the man was uncommonly handsome, and
the lady was tall, redheaded (an even rarer hair colouring here than it
was elsewhere on the continent) and very beautiful, and there was much to
attract the attention of the passers by.
Minestus had chosen Fred and Astra for this mission for two reasons: they had the skills that he needed and they had conveniently come into his clutches. But their big drawback was that they were far from inconspicuous. He had hoped to address that with his magic before this, but that was proving problematic and would have to wait until he was closer.
