A Happy Reunion

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 74292

Acting quickly, she hoisted the pasty politician back to his feet and, always the tactful one, used him as a human shield. “Don’t try anything stupid,” she whispered in his ear.

Beads of sweat collected on the man’s brow and he shifted uneasily in the lissome warrior’s clutches. “I think you must be terribly confused, my good...”

She tightened her suffocating grip on the wriggling wretch. “Quiet.”

The sound of the footsteps grew ever nearer. Heavy, plodding footsteps. The footsteps of a man...a large and clumsy one, at that. Where had she heard those footsteps before? Right about then a figure came into view from around the very corner the aliens and the man had come from moments earlier.

Velus yelped excitedly and leaped into the figure’s arms. Astra was about to protest when she realized who it was. “Fred!” she exclaimed. She eased her grip on the man, allowing him to draw in a long, heavy sigh.

Fred flashed his comrades a toothy smile. “Well, seems you two have been busy,” he remarked dryly, regarding the oozing corpses on the floor. “Who’s your new friend?”

“Allow me to introduce myself,” the man said, worming his way free from Astra. He bowed ever so slightly and with a wide, charismatic sweep of his arms proclaimed, “My name is Steven Von Strutter, ambassador to my liege and lord, King Humphrey of Stormgarde of the Three Kingdoms!”

Fred gave a polite nod. “I’m Lord Fred.”

The man’s face lit up. “The Lord Fred!? Slayer of the cyclops of Sarnath, destroyer of the goblin horde of Sri Lanka, he who maimed the undead mimes of Macedonia!?”

Fred smiled. “The one and the same.” And with a newly inflated ego he turned to Astra and Velus. “Another fan. I get this a lot.”

“Don’t trust this man!” Astra pleaded. “He’s in league with the demons!”

Von Strutter gave her a withering look. “Demons?”

Astra nodded. “That’s right! Demons! The very demons who we feared had captured Lord Fred! How did you manage to free yourself, anyway?”

“Well,” said Fred. “That’s a good question...”

  1. Using my considerable prowess in hand to hand combat, I slaughtered my way free.
  2. Actually, they're not half bad, once you get to know them. They let me go of my own free will.
  3. Stealth. I used stealth. Oh, and cunning, too. Stealth and cunning.
  4. I'm afraid I can't answer that at present, however.
