So, after a bunch of scrying the mage finds that the twin dragonets, the
transformed Harry and Cedric, are now a few days old. (They had been
regressed to the egg stage by the dragoness when she carried out the
transformation, in order to give them the best chance of bonding with her
as their supposed mother.)
That makes things more difficult as, dragons being reptiles, even young only a few days out of the shell are quite well developed. They will be capable of kicking up a fuss and inflicting nasty injuries with their claws if anyone tries to take them away from their "mother". So some way of sedating them is required, whether a potion or a spell. "That's not a problem," Malkon says. "But what could be is getting close enough to apply the sedative without being detected first, as otherwise they are liable to raise the alarm. Ideally you would wait either till they are asleep or until the dragoness has to leave them to hunt for food." "How will we know if they're asleep or if the dragoness is away if we daren't get close?" Hilda asks. "You might be able to scry such things, but you won't be with us and we can't."
