Waiting

She had no weapon or armour. All that she had, in fact, was the strange clothing that she had found herself wearing when she first regained consciousness in the tower. In spite of tearing it in several places to give her greater freedom of movement, she still looked rather as if she had lost an altercation with a giant mass of pink cotton candy. [935]

Astra could not tell how far away the creature was, as the light from the lamp above her head did not extend very far beyond the circle of stones, some thirty feet in radius, at whose centre she stood. She moved over to one of the stones, hoping that she might be able to lift it and use it as a weapon, even though it looked much too large to be ideal.

1. But the stone was much too heavy to lift.
2. It was too heavy to be usable as a weapon, but under it she found that a hole had been excavated and in that hole was something that might be of use to her.
3. The stone was surprisingly light for its size. She hefted it, prepared to throw it at the as yet unseen beast when/if it came within range.
