Trial by water

"Good!" the maiden answered. "Here, catch!" She picked up something shiny from behind her and tossed it lightly at Nendi. It looked like a squashed glass ball at first, but when she caught it she realized it was a kind of thin transparent bladder filled with water.

"What manner of sorcery is this?" she inquired.

"It's a water balloon," the maiden giggled as she stood up and took a step back. "Now toss it back."

Nendi did. "Now step back," the maiden instructed, and Nendi did that too. Then the maiden tossed the 'water balloon' back and explained: "We keep going like that until it bursts. The one who gets soaked loses."

Nendi hesitated. Something sounded funny about that rule...

Oh.

1. "No way," she protested. "The one who gets soaked wins."
2. She threw the water balloon back as hard as she could.
3. She tossed the water balloon gently to the maiden... who threw it back as hard as she could
4. They kept playing fair.
5. Nendi threw the water balloon at the ground between them.
6. Nendi threw the water balloon at the unicorn.
7. The unicorn got bored. Which was quite an achievement for an immortal when you think about it.
8. The game was broken up by a purple toaster headed gorilla.
