Though the temple was long disused, its magic was still operative. Astra
awoke in the morning feeling surprisingly well rested. But in the night,
her bedraggled velvet gown had somehow been replaced by a wedding dress
and she had a gold band on her ring finger. Looking across at Fred, who
was still asleep, she saw that he was now dressed in what a bridegroom
would wear for a wedding, and that he too had a gold ring on his finger.
(In their culture, both man and wife wore a ring.)
She hurriedly woke Fred, and they discussed what this could mean. "I think that as far as this temple is concerned, we've been married," Fred said. "I like you Fred, but I would have preferred to have more say in who my husband would be. Besides, I'm not ready yet to settle down to a life of wedded bliss. It might be unwise to do it inside this place, but I suggest that as soon as we are out of the temple we should just remove our rings and throw them away, as I don't consider this so-called 'marriage' binding. I'm afraid that we are stuck with these unsuitable clothes until we can find replacements, though."
