"Oh, Mom, of course!" exclaimed Stacy. "Your voice sounds different. Do
you have a cold?" Mentally, she congratulated herself at how slick she was
becoming at hiding her memory loss. "No, dear, I'm fine," said the voice of Stacy's mother. "Perhaps there's something wrong with the phone." "That must be it," said Stacy. "So, OK, Mom, you're Speed Dial #1. I'm writing that down. Um... hey, listen... Do you have Robert's number handy? I'm really embarrased to admit this, but apparently I've, uh, overestimated my phenomenal memory. You know, tried to remember one too many things, I guess, and I've started forgetting phone numbers..." She realized she was babbling, but there was something about talking to a mother she didn't even remember that was just disconcerting. Her mother didn't seem to notice, though. "Of course I do, dear." She rattled off a number, which Stacy quickly wrote down. "But," she continued, "you won't get him at home if you're thinking of calling him..."
