Astra's curiosity got the better of her sense of unease. She poled the
skiff till it grounded on the beach, then walked over to the sleeping
woman and gently shook her awake.
Her eyes fluttered open and, seeing Astra, she smiled. "Hello, me," she said. "I knew that you - or I, if you like - would show up sooner or later, as I've already lived through this scene from your point of view. You see, I'm your future self. Don't ask me why or how it's happened, as I can't tell you.." "All right, I won't. But why did you dye your hair?" "I'm not sure that I should tell you that either. It might create a paradox if you gained any fore-knowledge of your future. Now I have to take the skiff, while you must remain here." "What! And leave me stranded?" "I'm afraid so. You see, I've already lived through this from your own point of view, and that's what happened. You needn't worry, though. After a few days your past self will show up and you can take her skiff. And you get to keep my red blanket till she arrives."
