Diana for once did as Fred had asked without arguing. "She's unconscious
and very pale, but her pulse is strong and steady," she reported. "I
would expect her to come round before long."
"Will she be back in her right mind when she does, though?" Fred heard one of the girls murmur, too soft for Diana to hear. Diana turned her attention back to Fred, now back on his feet, and for the first time noticed his wound. "Fred, you shouldn't be so noble! Your condition is far worse than hers. Let me examine your wound." As she pulled back his gashed mail and stared at the wound, her expression grew grave. "What weapon did this? The wound isn't deep, but the flesh on either side of it is becoming cold and white." "It was an undead blade. Perhaps I'd better quickly fill you in on what happened while you were out of things." When he had finished, Diana's normal self-control slipped for a moment. She looked appalled by what she had done. "I'm so sorry, Fred. I would have hoped that I'd have more resistance to Exotica's enchantment of me than that." "Don't feel bad. You couldn't help yourself. And your intervention didn't really make any difference to how my subsequent fight with the dark knight went.". "Thanks. I can bandage your wound to stop it bleeding, but that won't help with the underlying poison. I'm very afraid that you may lose the use of your left arm - or it could be even worse. However it turns out, I think we need to get out of this city as quickly as we can. It's too dangerous here." "No, we must stay here," said Exotica, who was rising to her feet. She looked very pale but otherwise seemed all right.
