Only then did she open her eyes. Even that took quite an effort, as she felt incredibly weak. Was that because she had lost a lot of blood?

She was lying on her back on a bed in what appeared to be a dormitory. All the other beds were empty, which was unsurprising as the clock on the opposite wall told her that it was 10am. She was naked. She assumed that her corset must have been cut off her so that they could treat her wound. That treatment must have been amazingly effective, or else she had been unconscious for weeks or even months, as her stomach showed only the faintest trace of a scar where she had been stabbed. If she had been unconscious for a very long time, that might explain why she felt so weak.

Then a loudspeaker on one wall blared:

1. "Rise and shine! Your advanced training starts now. If you still feel weak, then drink the glass of pink liquid that you will find on your bedside cabinet."
2. "Rise and shine! Your advanced training is now complete. It was imparted hypnotically while you were unconscious."
3. "Rise and shine! You now owe us for the medical attention that you have received."
