According to the young man with the ancient eyes, the clockwork men were
impersonating various popular figures in Allarian society in order to tap
into the energy of popularity. The synapses that fire when a popular
figure is admired is very close to the synapses that control all human
behavior. The clockwork men believe they can short circuit human minds
this way, breaking through the mental blocks concerning the energy
manipulation called 'magic'. With magic as their weapon, the clockwork men
would overwhelme this time period and fufill their true function, to make
it so no Time Lords ever existed. Of course, this was all mostly gibberish to Astra and Velus. The Doctor lightly touches their temples and it translates, in their minds to a short, basic concept. The Clockwork Men want to steal magic from wizards and kill the Doctor as a child. Their base seems to be in the caves, as the Dragon is a powerful source of magic. Velus, always up for a quest, offers his assistance. Astra is unsure, until the Doctor demonstrates he has clothing that she can wear without adverse affects. This earns her trust. Where is Fred?
