The cabbie, a man with black hair and a ring on each finger, dropped her
off right at the front steps of the VLA Visitors Center.
It was a white boxy affair, with four glass doors, entrance, exit, entrance, exit. Stacy pushed through the second entrance. A wall of cold air washed over her. The lobby was a cool blue tile. A yellow sign asked her to pardon the remodeling dust. A black and white sign informed her of the tour times, the soonest of which was a half an hour from now. The lobby narrowed to another entrance in front of her. A few velvet ropes funneled people to a small, square. Past that was red carpet, pleasing beige walls and ten foot high photograph of the first telescope. To Stacy's left, though, was a staircase. It went up and curved inward, stopping above the celing. The wall over there was all window, but muted, let in a comfortable amount of light. To the right was a small brown door that said 'Employee's Only'. Stacy looked around. No one was in sight. The cab had already pulled away.
