Well, she had wanted to know what branch of science she specialised in,
and now it
looked as though it must be zoology or botany. The paycheck stub revealed
that she
earned a reasonable, if not especially impressive, salary. She had no way
of telling into
what account she had paid the check - or even if it referred to the most
recent
month's salary she had had. The stub said "July, 2000", but she had no
idea what today's
date was. Wait a minute! Yes, she did. Where was that doughnut shop
receipt?
Stacy found the receipt. Today was August 5th, 2000. So that had been her most recent month's salary. In that case presumably she had paid the check into a different account from the one that had only seven dollars in it.

JH (assuming from Lots' episode that in the US people are usually paid by check rather than directly into their bank account as usually happens in the UK)
