Stacy walked along the frontage road, tantalized by the sight of those
giant dishes, just out of her reach on the horizon. They glowed faintly
there, almost seeming to call to her. She walked forward in a daze, for
what seemed like hours, but they grew no closer. Still she walked on,
aware of nothing but the sensation of one foot moving in front of another,
and the irresistable compulsion to continue onwards... The sound of a truck's horn blaring on the highway brought her back to herself with a start. She blinked. The telescopes were gone, and all around her was nothing but the highway and the desert night. Of course she hadn't seen the telescopes, Stacy realized. They were 50 miles from here, in the opposite direction! Had she been hallucinating? What the hell was happening here?
