Astra carefully examined the contract. Past experience here in the caves
had taught her to be careful and wary of anything that sounded too good
to be true. The contract seemed nice, printed in crisp bold-faced
characters on cream-colored parchment, though when fully unrolled it
seemed to be about several
hundred pages long. At the top of the front page was a glistening
letterhead of a crest showing dark serpents consuming each other, that
read Office of Chaos, Sub-Department of Boring Legal Crap and Such.
"And so," Astra read aloud. "The bearer of the Cursed Corset, namely one (1) Astra of Aqualaria hereby agrees to perform a set period of mercenary duties outlined in paragraph 8.624, in exchange for one (1) +2 Aqualarian Battle Queen's Garb..." She unfurled the parchment to paragraph 8.624. "Stop that," she told Giorgio, who had been sneaking up behind her with a sedative-soaked rag. "I am going to read the bloody contract and that's that. Let's see - mercenary duties that include, but are not limited to, burning, looting and pillaging peasant villages along the European coast, appearing in our fabulous bi-montly underwear catalog, uh... animal husbandry? Kitchen Patrol? And what's this about time-space positioning and nature of duties performed being dependant on results of Training outlined in paragraph 5.343?" "Its just a lot of legal mumbo-jumbo. Basically we're trying to get around some Affirmative Action clauses." Luigi said. "Look, do you really wanna sit here all day reading that crap? Just sign on the dotted line and we can get you started today makin' some real money, plus you get the armor on a loan basis, no money down. Can ya pass up a deal like that? Can ya?"
