Nope, he was a captive.

With Astra leading, and Fred and Velus close behind, the group finally entered the Dragon's inner sanctum.

It was magnificent; the dragon's treasure hoard was there, gold filling the whole room, with rubies, sapphires and emeralds scattered about the place. They were in the main, circular room, and there were six wide pathways leading from the room to other rooms, like, from what Fred could see 'Master Bedroom', 'Guest Bedrooms', 'Bathroom', 'Kitchen', 'Dungeon', and 'Game-room'.

But most surprising of all, was the group of humans in this main room.

"You.. you killed Ed!", Gasped one of them.

"What? Who's Ed- you mean...", Fred turned to the body that was in the doorway outside. "Oh. Well... sorry. Wait- who the heck are you?"

"We're his captives...", Said a tall, burly man.

"Captives? So, shouldn't you be in the dungeon?", asked Astra.

"Oh no," Responded one of the captives, this one a scrawny little boy. "The dragon treats us well, providing we cook and clean for him. On Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays, he even lets us play in the game-room! The dungeons are only for the knights who try to kill the dragon. It got so full, that he had to lock some of them in random pathways in the cavern walls." [38]

"Like me... Anyway, what was that, err, Ed doing, leaving through the door?", questioned Astra.

"Escaping! He was checking to see if the coast was clear.", responded the scrawny kid. "Hey look! It's Velus!" The boy pointed to the little dog. "He got turned into a dog when he took an extra slice of cake.

"So, why haven't you tried to escape prior to this?" Fred replied.

"Because we only figured out the password now.", the burly man said. "It's 'Oh yeah, you're a sexy beast, aren't ya Mr. Dragon?'"

"How in the lord's name would you have figured that out?", Fred asked puzzled.

One of the female captives blushed.

"Where is the dragon, anyway?" Fred asked them.

"Out terrorizing one of the local villages, no doubt.", One of the captives replied.

"Well, we're sorry for killing your friend.", Fred told them, bowing. "But it's time to set you guys free and kill the dragon."

1. "Didn't we tell you? The dragon treated us well You can't kill him! You wouldn't be able to, anyway."
2. "Indeed! Good luck killing the big ugly reptile!"
