"Braveheart, is what he says true?" Hilda asks. "Are you - I mean were you - a mage?"

"Don't know," is all that the gryphon can reply. He still has no memory of "before".

"It would certainly explain the mysterious disappearance of the mage," Gilda says.

"If it's true, it should be safe for us to go back and find that artifact."

"Is it worth the risk? Besides, now that I have an idea of what the mage was capable of, I wouldn't put it past him to have put spells in place to protect his valuables from being stolen."

  1. They eventually decide that they are at greater risk from the merchant's employer and agree to go back.
  2. They decide that facing the merchant's employer's wrath is still the lesser of two evils.
