There were a lot of books, seemingly arranged totally haphazardly. Fiction
titles were
mingled with non-fiction, one subject with another. She had thought that
the non-fiction
titles would give her a good idea of what her specialist field was, but
before long
she realised that she seemed to own advanced works in a number of
different disciplines.
Was she a remarkable polymath, or was there some other explanation? Books
left
behind by previous boyfriends, perhaps? Or an inability to resist an
apparent bargain
(many of the books appeared to be second-hand)?
