Mad Feast of Death

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 66810

The battle was over. The Allarian Army had earlier been on the verge of breaking, when rumours came that the Princess was to ride out and lead the charge. Then the battle turned into a bloodbath as the loyalists fought with redoubled fury. Altough the Princess never did show up, this was the rebels' costliest victory of the war so far. Between both sides, 80,000 smallfolk and 25,000 knights lay dead or wounded on the field of battle.

Fred rode his horse among the mutilated bodies, listening to the dying scream in pain and anguish.

"Murderor!" someone yelled at him. Fred glanced down to see an injured young knight bearing Caemlyn's crest on his shield. The knight glared back at him with his one remaining eye and struggled to stand. "Son of a dog! You've ruined Allaria, you bastard! You betrayed your own father!"

"My apologies," Duke Zular said embarrasedly. "We should've had the field cleaned up before you came out, so you wouldnt have to witness something like this."

"Where are the priests and healers?" Fred said. "We have to take care of the wounded immediately."

"The healers ran off with the whiskey train, and the priests are robbing the dead of their jewelry. I've had the engineers start working on some siege engines, but that hopefully wont be necessary. Exotica, and ahem, the mysterious forces working behind her know they have lost, m'lord. All they have left is the city of Caemlyn itself. We can starve them out with little difficulty.

Fred looked up at the outer wall of Caemlyn. It had but one main gate, made of iron and timber, and upon it were affixed two huge plates of bronze, one carved with the image of an eagle's head, the other with a lion's fiery mien (the emblems of the royal houses of Alaric and of Exultaine). Fires still burning across the scorched earth of the battlefield illuminated the eagle and lion with a menacing glow. "What if they decide to fight?"

"Well then, we'll smash down the walls and take the city," Zular grinned. "Of much greater concern is that a foreign power could enter the conflict, but I doubt Exotica is desperate enough to beg the Hespaniards or the Westerners for help. She is a proud woman, her father's daughter."

Fred said...

  1. "Very well, let us put the city to the siege."
  2. "I'll ride to the gate and ask to parley with them in person."
  3. "I am going to infiltrate the city and end this war without any more bloodshed."
