Fred sighed, got up and walked over to Astra. "Your problem is that you
can hear us, and ours is that we can hear you, and therefore can't
concentrate on the game. Well, I have a solution to both our problems."
"You're going to go and find the Dragon and kill it?" Fred had opened his pack, and was fumbling in it. "No, actually," he said. "Not till we've finished our game, anyway. Ah, here's what I was looking for." He took out a candle and a bandage. He cut off two small pieces of wax from the candle, and warmed them in his hands till they were malleable. Then he forced them into Astra's ears. "Hey, you've made me deaf!" she objected. She saw Fred's lips move, but could not hear him say: "That's what you wanted, isn't it?" When she unwisely opened her mouth to say something more, he slipped the bandage into it, and then tied the ends behind her head.
