Astra Seeks Immortality

Fred was chained to the post, in the familiar area where he had once
witnessed Astra's fall from grace, in an alternate timeline. Astra had
been slated for execution, Fred recalled, and he had little doubt that the
same was planned for him. He had already died more than once, though. He
had existed as a disembodied spirit, and had inhabited the bodies of both
Belinda and Carola. What would happen if he died yet again?
In his solitude, Fred began to think about the strange being of light that
had approached him[49013], that had sent him back in time and given him a
chance to alter events, though things were not going quite as well as Fred
had hoped. The being had told him that a favor would be required in time,
but what favor could Fred possibly fulfill for a being that held such sway
over time itself? In the meantime, would Fred remain more or less
immortal, able to leap to another living vessel with every demise?
"I see you're finally awake," Astra said, walking into the open area of
the cavern. She stared down at Fred.
"You don't serve the dragon after all, little sister," Astra said. "This I
learned quickly, and when the truth came out, you were sentenced to be put
to death, tomorrow morning in fact." Astra leaned close.
"You're Fred, aren't you?" she asked. "Just as you took over Belinda's
body, you somehow took Carola's. It isn't that difficult to see, but the
question is, how is such a thing possible? What sorcery could be
responsible? I have a choice for you, then. Whatever powers that protect
you in this way, I want you to call on them. " Astra's eyes glittered. "I
want the power to cheat death, Fred. Whatever entity it is that lends you
such power, I want you to bring it here. Now."
"How?" Fred asked, exasperated.
"That's up to you," Astra answered. "If you manage to bring it here, I
will free you. You have my word. If not, perhaps I can't kill you
permanently, but I can and will stomp all your pretty little teeth in.
What will it be?"
