The Call of Duty

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 64251

Fred decided that, before doing anything else, he must discover the fate of the King's daughter; if she lived to give her such medical attention as he could, and if she did not then at least to see that she had a proper burial. He himself had somehow been flung out of the caves by the magical blast of flame, but she - being chained - was probably still at the same location as before, so he had to go back there. He would like to find out the fate of Velus as well, if he could. Then there was the other princess, the Aqualarian. If the fireball had been sent by the Dragon, as he assumed, then she, being further away from the heart of the caves than the Princess Exotica had been, might have had a better chance of survival.

So Fred bravely re-entered the left entrance. After a while he reached the spot where the Aqualarian had been chained.

  1. She was still there, little the worse for wear. Luckily for her, the layout of the tunnels was such that that the greater part of the fiery blast had bypassed her.
  2. Her hair and eyebrows had been burnt away and her skin had been reddened, but she was not badly hurt. Even better, the magic within the flame had dissolved away her magical chains as if they had been made of butter.
  3. She was badly hurt.
  4. Her blackened corpse hung in the chains.
  5. The chains were empty! What could have happened to her?
