After a short discussion, all of the group agreed that they should spend an hour or two in investigating the Temple. They might conceivably find something that would help them against the Dragon but, even if they did not, they could not pass up the chance to explore such a mighty edifice. "It's not going to make much difference whether we kill the Dragon in an hour's time or in three hour's time," Astra said.

The path from the docks led them to an opening in the great wall. The opening had a gate, but it stood open. Once through the wall, they had an uninterrupted view of the enormous Temple. Not only the upper parts of its towers - all that they could see before - were golden. The whole building - apart from its windows of stained glass - was that colour.

"Nice paint job," Felix said, trying to disguise the awe that he felt by being flippant. He was so impressed that he was staring at the building rather than at the naked Astra. (Which he had been doing at the docks, though every time she returned his gaze he would quickly look away.)

"I don't think that's paint," Fred replied. "The surface texture looks wrong for that. I think that this building was constructed out of solid gold."

"But that's impossible!" Astra objected. "There isn't that much gold in the world. Even if there was, not all the countries in the world acting in concert could afford to build something like this if it really was gold."

"I think that to produce it very powerful magic must have been required," Adz said.

All this time they were approaching the Temple. They had seen no-one; the area appeared to be deserted apart from themselves. Now they ceased talking, for they had arrived at what seemed to be the main entrance.
