"You see," lied Astra, "That curse also effects people at the other end of
the transport. In this case the manager's memory has been shifted, he
knew that Fred was here even though Fred never walked through the front
door."
Princess Exotica thought about this a moment. "Then why didn't--" Fred cut her off. "Listen, Exxy," he said. "Why are we even having this conversation? You broke up with me, remember?" "Really?" said Astra, not actually surprised. "That's neither here nor--" began Exotica. "I just need to get resupplied," interrupted Fred hoping to keep his ex- girlfriend off balance. "And then I'll be off to the Southern Caves again. I'm sure the King, your father, would not want the whole kingdom knowing that the Dragon beat him again!" "Now, see here--" began Exotica. "It is true," said Astra, seeing how Fred was finally showing some sense. "That DragonMage is quite tricky and by keeping this knight from his Quest, the Beast has - in essence - made a fool of the King of this land." "Well, er, um..." began Exotica whose brain was processing too many different things at once to be very effective - the details of the explanations didn't seem to add up but the big picture looked right. The inference that her father, King Emry, was in any way to blame for the Dragon's continued existence got her gall, though. "You two can stay HERE!" she said angrily. "I will go to my father and his men, I will explain this blasted Dragon's filthy curses and tricks, I will get you a month's worth of provisions and you will kill the Dragon and my father's name will resound through all the land!" Then Exotica huffed out of the room, slamming the door!
