"Exotica!" Fred cried futiley as the girl was flung against the rock wall
by the dragon's thrashing tail. He thrust with his sword again, this time
finding the dragon's black heart and piercing it once and for all. Then,
without even bothering to pull his sword out of the beast's hide, he
raced over to his fallen princess. The others followed quickly.
"Princess..." he said. "Please, open your eyes." Exotica said nothing, her broken body limp in Fred's arms, blood trickling from her mouth and ears. Tears formed in his eyes. He laid her down gently on the ground, then looked to Shard. "Wizard! You have great power! Heal her, please!" Shard sighed heavily. "I am sorry, Fred, but her wounds are beyond my powers to heal. Even were I at full strength, it would not be a certainty. But, alas, I have used too much mana energy fighting Minestus. It will take time to recover it. Time that Exotica, unfortunately, no longer has." Astra turned away. She felt guilty for saying and thinking such terrible things about Exotica. She had let her jealousy get the better of her, and was regretting it. Fred was doing his best to keep his composure, but was not looking so good. Everyone else stood silently, mourning. The color drained from Exotica's face as her life slipped away... "Wait a minute!" Nerozi said suddenly, an idea forming in the back of his mind. Everyone's eyes turned to him. "There might just be a way! We can still save her!" "What? How?!" Astra exclaimed. "With this." He held up his right arm, on which was strapped the dimensional transporter device. "We haven't the power to save Exotica here and now. But we don't have to remain here and now, now do we? he said, a small smile crossing his lips. He looked to Shard, who was sort of the unoffical leader. "It's worth a shot." he conceded. "What are we waiting for then!" Fred said. "Let's go! But where, exactly, do intend to take us?"
