As Exotica had until very recently been shut up in a chest for many hours
in total darkness, given her natural magical ability it wasn't too
surprising that she had hallucinated Andrew and Borskoff. Impressively,
she had unwittingly conjured up likenesses of them that were so
convincing that they had fooled Fred and Tits as well.
When the two newcomers threatened Fred, he drew his sword. When his strike at one of them passed right through, meeting no resistance, he realised that they were no more than illusions. So did Exotica herself, and as a result the two forms wavered and then vanished. "I'm sorry about that," Exotica said. "I didn't realise that I was doing it." "Why did they threaten me?" Fred wanted to know. "Does that mean that you don't like me?" In fact Exotica did not much like Fred, finding him vain, egotistical and incompetent. But it did not seem wise to say so. She didn't want to antagonise him if he was going to slay the dragon. Not that she had much faith that he was capable of that, but he might get lucky. "No, of course not," she said. "He's wonderful!" the bespelled and befuddled "Tits" assured her. "I'm sure he is. Well, I suppose that we had better be getting on. Fred has a dragon to slay."
