Things coming to a head...

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 63424

Inquirer

"Reika," I call from where I stand, next to the telephone junction box Chiana is splicing into for her efforts to do her hacking (hm, must talk with her about jumping the gun . . . she kind of missed a few steps). "Don't bother, traditional signals are being jammed."

Right now only the more traditional landlines are working (fiber-optic or not), and then that was only local area only.

I'd kind of wanted her to stick to the plan and track down the financial assets of SEELE and . . . isolate them from their owners. That would have made what we planned on next here a bit easier when we finally bring all concerned parties together in one fashion or form here in a moment. We HAD hoped to at least do this in a halfway legit fashion, at least meeting one part of this mess face to face, but nothing like that can happen it appears.

Yes, we apparently have the actual G-man in our midst and the Doctor seems to have done wonders in swaying him (the scientific/technical details he went into in just WHY detonating a nuclear bomb back at Black Mesa had just WOWED him . . . . the Doctor knows his stuff and the G-man was bright enough to realize it). The techno-babble alone must be considered a lethal weapon....

Running a check on all data gathered from intercepts before jamming had begun from what I would rather term as VERY unfriendly forces up in the surrounding hillside . . .

"Damnit, I hoped it wouldn't come to this," I mutter softly, only audible to those party members with well above human hearing.

The JSSDF was as messed up by whatever befell NERV (scattering them hither and yon) by the chatter I intercepted before and after the massive jamming aimed at this city. Hm, guess I owe a (small) apology to the NERV goons who picked us up for having been so disorganized and ineffective because of that.

. . .

Then again, these putzes managed to lose track of on different occasions: the pilot of EVA 01, the pilot of EVA 02, and the Sub- commander of NERV (while IN NERV HQ, no less)! Well, with a track record like that I have to agree. The need to be canned!

Sigh, at least the panicked retreat of what REMAINS of the local population of Tokyo 3 (not much left after that blast from EVA 00) went without any injuries. Between the Dragon Fear and the rather high speed (violent) chase the G-man's thugs gave off (bullets flying and everything), that's a miracle in and of itself. At least it leaves fewer to ask awkward (and stupid) questions.

Now, what am I talking about that has me moping? Well, it's just that things are coming to a head from the chatter over the airwaves. Nothing specific is given, just that something is in the air. Something BAD. Given what I've overheard from the G-man . . . Tokyo 3 is going to be glowing in the dark here soon if something drastic is not done. Something drastic that will put me and the Doctor out a few days (or so).

We need to do some world class hacking like the which this world has NEVER experienced before. If there had been more time I would have used my deck for this job. Would be less powerful and take more time, but it wouldn't have cost me what THIS stunt is going to cost me. Me and the Doctor, I should say.

Only did this one other time back on Core Earth when the entire planet had been threatened with destruction by that madman (re: 34102). Put me out for a LONG time, that stunt. Should have a bit longer to operate before I conk out again, a burden shared (between myself and the Doctor). We're not going to use my computer deck for this.

No, you've got to remember that in a sense there is an irony that an AI is using a computer (laptop, deck, whatever) to go into computer networks. If I had access to up to date Military grade hardware/software, yeah I . . . .

Shit, even with that that latest stuff as a Golem vice just an Inuit AI I'm not sure I could cut the mustard with all the targets I and the Doctor are going to tackle here. Granted, the targets were created in the early 21rst century and by now MY timeline's technology is in the early 22nd century (whole century ahead). However, the technology is not only from a whole different timeline, but a timeline based upon a Japanese anime (WAY more advanced in some manners than what I would normally encounter). Meaning that where in other places my gear would laugh at the target network I would have to tread carefully.

And with this surplus gear I have? Oh, the things I can do are nice and boy does it look like the lessons I taught Chiana really took by the way she managed to reach into NERV HQ here in Tokyo 3 and latch into their sensor network. . . .got to say that I AM a good teacher . . . note swollen head here. Thing is that in order to accomplish what I hope to accomplish, in what time remains (the voices on the airwave for what remains of the JSSDF sound VERY panicked . . . keep on asking for permission to what I believe is to release their weaponry: N2 mines). . . .

No, what we need is the mind of a Timelord to do some hacking in cyberspace and ME being the bridge to cyberspace.

Wonderful thing being an AI with some Borg technology within . . . even IF it's gonna cost me (and him) here in a moment. If nothing else I know that I'm going to play a part in getting BACK at the bastards who caused this . . . mess. SEELE deserves a LOT of pain for all the blood spilled . . . and might still be spilt today.

And Gendo Ikari . . . who's made the lives of both his son and his . . . daughter such a living Hell . . .

I just wish that I could see his face when he just realizes what has been done to him. How his faithful tool . . .

Reika deserved better . . . And I'm glad to say that through her sister Rei's actions she WILL have better!

. . .

Hm, and the plan had been to at least give the native version of OUR Rei a leg up and here things go and we somehow have adopted her into the family!!

Yeah, looking back at it . . .

Memories of Reika, then Rei melting into Mina's embrace and whispering "Warm... warm..." softly and longingly . . .

We could still have managed a clean break and set her up with some caring gaurdians to look after her when we had to leave . . . but it wouldn't have been easy (emotionally especially).

Then again, I and the rest might be kidding ourselves...

Should have guess it, when she was still somewhat shellshocked but practically melting into the hug that Mina and Alan gave her.

Whatever had started there, that moment, pretty much got sealed when Rei and Reika went on that odessy that netted us the G-man here.

MAN, whatever exactly that rather ILL advised "data dump" Rei did with Reika (damnit Rei, you could have REALLY put yourself and her in a bad way there with overload of the neurons!) What awaits him when the G-man finally decides (if ever) to let him see the daylight again. . . . isn't Rei Ayanami anymore, in a sense.

Wonder what Diana Walker will have to say about this latest "miracle" in psychotherapy.... Well, wahtever . . .

The air of hopelessness is gone and there is . . . .no longer a stoic mask on her face anymore. She is actually smiling and laughing, again.

Almost catlike in a way, really, but suites her.

  1. "Sigin, you know what must be done while I and my wife are . . . indisposed," the Doctor begins as he walks over towards me.
