Astra hasn't been able to afford a very good horse, so she knows that her
chances of outdistancing her pursuers are small. She is wondering whether
she should fight or surrender - though she is brilliant with a sword, she
is outnumbered ten to one - when the leading man shouts: "Give yourself
up. I am the sherriff. You are accused of the murders of Fred Flint and
Bill Smith."
"But that's ridiculous," Astra objects. "Some men made a nuisance of themselves, and I kicked one of them in the groin and punched another on the jaw, but that's all." "That's not what I was told. Anyhow, this ain't the right time to discuss it. You can defend yourself when we get to the trial - before we string you up." Astra doesn't like the sound of that.
