The Underground Lake

"No, wait. I can sense this water is under some foul enchantment. It would be most unwise to cross." Shard says.

"Now that you mention it...I can sense it too. It's faint, but it's definitely there." Exotica says quietly. Shard casts a sideways glance her way. "I thought I could sense you were a magic user. I see I was right."

"Just a novice, really." she replies, looking down.

"Anyway, how are we going to get across then?" Astra asks.

Shard steps forward. He raises his staff and mutters some words in an incomprehensible language. A narrow beam of silver-blue light lanced forth from the end of the staff into the center of the lake. Within seconds, the lake had frozen to its depth. "Impressive." Fred says. "Now we can cross safely."

The group makes their way across the frozen surface of the lake. Fred felt compelled to carry his princess across, so she wouldn't have to walk barefoot on the ice. Exotica blushes as Fred takes her into his arms, but dosen't really object. Astra glares icily at the pair, but neither of them notice.

Continuing on, the group comes to a fork in the cave ahead, with paths branching off to the left and right. "We should split up." Nerozi says. "We'll have a better chance of finding the dragon that way."

"I'm going with Fred!" Astra and Exotica say almost simultaneously, then give angry glances to each other.

"Astra, think logically. We can't have both our short-range fighters in the same group." Shard says.

"Oh, fine!" she says in a huff. "Let's go then, 'Rozi, Velus. The sooner we get this over with, the better." After all, she thought, Fred will be coming with us on our next dimensional jump, but we can leave that black-haired hussy behind. She stormed off down one of the paths.

"Astra, I told you not to call me- hey, hey wait up!" Nerozi calls out, following Astra along with Velus. That left the other path to Fred, Exotica, and Shard. For her part, Exotica was happy to be able to stay with Fred, but was still fairly terrified of the demonic-looking Shard.
