  1. Waking a man, who sat up in bed, looked at the bedside clock and said: "Dammit, Stacy. You know when I'm working nights I like to sleep through till at least 5pm."
  2. The room showed no sign of any occupancy but her own.
  3. On the bedside table she found a handwritten letter which began: "My darling Stacy, I'm missing you dreadfully, but with full remission I'll be out in three months..." It was signed: "Tom."
