The Second Statue is Identified

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 62581

The Allarian envoy, Baron Rickard Lyon, was a man in his fifties, who had spent almost all his life in the service of the King. He immediately recognised Lord Fred. "That statue is a remarkable likeness of Lord Frederigo De Honaire, Your Majesty," he said. "He went on a quest to destroy the dragon of the Southern Caves - to you I suppose they would be the Northern Caves - some thirty years ago. I can remember his departure almost like it was yesterday. He was never seen again, so - sadly - the dragon must have got him. How does the statue come to be here? I am surprised that such a man of action as he was ever sat for a sculptor."

Yarna regretted now that she had brought this statue back with the one of Astra. She felt that she had no choice but to tell the envoy the same story that she had already told the members of her court. "We found both statues in a deep basement far below the castle. The other one is of my sister, Princess Astra, who coincidentally has also been missing, presumed dead, for thirty years. To answer your question, I've no idea how the statue of your Lord Frederigo finished up in such an unlikely location or how it came to be sculpted."

"The sculptor must have been a genius, to create two such lifelike works. Or perhaps I should say 'one work', for they seem to be a matching pair. But why did he - or she - choose to put such expressions of alarm on their faces? The Princess and Lord Fred - or whoever commissioned the statues - would not have been too pleased, one would have thought."

Yarna shrugged. "I cannot begin to guess. But I have had an idea. I had been intending to give a present to your King, to celebrate the state of friendship that now exists between our two nations. It occurs to me that this statue of Lord Frederigo might make a suitable gift. You could take it with you at the end of your visit. I am afraid that I must retain Astra; that statue has great sentimental value to me, as I'm sure you will understand."

  1. "Thank you, Your Majesty."
  2. "Thank you, Your Majesty. But I fear that the difficulties of transporting something so heavy across the Shreken Mountains might be insuperable."
