Woken by the scream, Fred and the other girls were crowding into the room behind Exotica. "There must be a curse on this house, perhaps on the whole village," Fred said. "Maybe that is why it was abandoned, and not through fear of the dragon. We must leave this place at once."

Pausing only to pick up the clothes that Velus had been wearing when he transformed, they left the house.
