Fred's mind whirled. He felt compelled to read something from this
accursed book, but every fibre of his being resisted it. The urge to read
aloud was overwhelming, so Fred frantically searched for something to read
that wouldn't cast a spell.
Speak to dead mother... no. Lost love... no. Eversharp blade... that's interesting... ... ...no... must resist. Ah, the dedication! Fred felt the rising panic subside as he started to read: Dedicated to Ub... Umber... Umbramagus the Great. May his power live on eternally. Whew! That's better. Fred snapped the book shut and dropped it before it could compel him to read more. "SO... BE... IT!" boomed a disembodied voice. Uh oh.
