Astra would have preferred to eat first, but since many amongst her hosts
were evidently eager to talk she felt that it would be impolite not to go
along with their wishes. However when she was asked for news of Camelyn,
she felt unsure of what to say. She could hardly tell them that its de
facto ruler was a man who, in her judgement, was totally insane. (She
doubted very much whether Fred becoming king would have prevented Reaibn
from continuing to run things, given the enormous power that he seemed to
hawe.)
"Lord Frederigo D'Honaire had recently returned to Camelyn when I left there," she said. "He was going to be crowned King. In fact that should already have happened by now, I think." It seemed that even the people in this out of the way spot had heard of Lord Fred, and that he was very popular. Her announcement was met with cheers. "He'll need a Queen," a young woman said. "It's not good for a king not to have a helpmate. Were there any rumours that he might marry before long?" Astra hesitated. "There was one such rumour," she said, "but it turned out to be false." She hoped that she wasn't blushing.
