The group proceeds farther into the caves. They soon come to a thick
ladder that leads up into the darkness. The ladder is ten feet wide and
made of thick wooden planks, rubbed smooth by long use. To go back would
mean a thirty minute delay. The ladder is bolted into the wall in dozens
of places by finely crafter, well-polished metal brackets. They sparkle
most neatly in the glow of the lights. The entire group decides to head up. Does Fred take point or rear?
