The End of the Quarrel

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 59721

Slowly but surely, Fred shook his hand. “Go to hell.” he said as he did it, letting go quickly and stepping back. This seemed to satisfy the Slasher.

“You guys made very mature choices today. I’m so pwoud of you both.” said the Slasher cood. He clasped his hand around Fred’s chin and shook it a little. “Who knows? Maybe someday you two will be gweat fwiends and wook back at this and waug---“

The sound of a bone cracking shot through the air as Fred’s fist struck the Slasher square in the nose. The Slasher’s body spun and collapsed on the ground between Fred and the boy.

The audience was quiet, save a few cries and footsteps. All eyes were on the Slasher, waiting to see if he would get back up. When people realized that he was definitely unconscious, they quickly began to leave the scene: The last thing any sane person wanted to face was a pissed off Slasher, whom had a reputation of being worse than serial murderers.

Fred barely noticed the shuffling crowds. He looked down at the Slasher: His eyes were open but unmoving. His mouth was gaping wide open and dripping into it was a river of blood coming from his nose. Fred then looked at his fist: It had turned a shade of purple and stung from the impact of the blow, but otherwise no harm done. He then looked at the fine-clothed boy: The boy put up his fist, ready to strike if Fred attacked. Fred sighed: he lusted to teach this boy a lesson, but the Slasher, even unconscious, made him uneasy. They were like giant rats: When alone, they were easily beatable. However, in large groups, they were deadly. And just like rats, they clustered every bloody corner of the city. It wasn’t worth it.

“What do you say we get the hell out ‘a here before this bastard wakes up?” Fred suggested.

The finely dressed boy looked like he also would have liked to continue the fight, but he looked down at the Slasher, and then lowered his fist. Wordlessly, he walked to his carriage, careful to step around Fred. As he was stepping into it, Fred said, “Next time, watch where the hell you’re going.”

“Don’t worry.” said the boy, turned his head back, his stare cold and hard. “Next time, I’ll be sure I run you over.” He sat down and made a waving motion to his driver. The driver cracked his whip and the horses pulled the carriage away.

Fred was about leave when something caught his mind. Quickly, Fred bent down by the Slasher and unbuckled his sword, sheath and all: This would fetch a fair sum of money.

“Is he a-stealin’ that sword?” a girl yelled from the vanishing crowd.

I’ve got to get out of here. Sword in his hand, Fred disappeared into the nearest ally. Although it didn’t lead directly to the weapons shop, it would a misleading path if any other Slashers or Searchers asked any witnesses which direction he went. He just had to take a few twist and turns, and then he would be on his way to the weapons shop.

Now, if he could just get there before it started raining…

  1. Fred continues making his way to the weapons shop (Fred's POV)
  2. Meanwhile, the boy has some troubling business to do...(The Boy's POV)
  3. Not long later, another Slasher finds the unconscious Slasher (Slasher's POV)
